The environmental impact of a lab isn’t just measured in CO₂ emissions but also in what other toxic gases or chemicals are being released in the air through ventilation or waste incineration and down the drains. Traditionally labs are assumed to use hazardous chemicals, but many scientists and equipment manufacturers are switching to safer, less toxic alternatives or using protocols to reduce the impact of the hazardous waste.
